Art or Deception?

It was November of 2007.
The cover of a reputable magazine caught my eye...
It had actual handwriting on its cover.
I was rushed and didn't have time to read it...
But I kept it.

It was THE ART ISSUE of W Magazine....
Isn't art supposed to be imitative of truth?

The Creative Director, Dennis Freedman, wanted to...
"Focus on women iconographic figures."
Hence, the signed cover of Angelina Jolie and subsequent signed photos of other famous women: Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Katie Holmes, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Kidman.

But it's not the women in the photos that have signed their pictures.
Richard Prince signed each woman's photograph.
It's this "contemporary" artist's character and personality depicted on each photo...
It's Richard Prince's attitude and feelings of each woman celebrity that is projected on to the world.

Interestingly, when Richard Prince thinks of Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts his affect is clear, objective and to the point. Then he springs into an exaggerated arrogant mindset at the thought of Angelina Jolie.

Direct and tenacious....Richard Prince is comfortable in frivolous deceit.
He has a strong tendency to exaggerate and let his imagination run away with him...
He really doesn't realize that he's lying or exaggerating...
It makes him feel good, rich and powerful!

So.....why did W Magazine ....opt for deceiving their clientele and defame the integrity of these famous women?
